5 Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Website

Recently, a good friend of mine asked me: “Why do I need a website?” Don’t get me wrong, this is a smart, strong business woman who is rocking social media, but she didn’t understand what kind of value a business website can offer. So thank you friend for inspiring me to write this post, hope it helps you and any other small business owners out there.

5 reasons why you need a website for your business

1) Your website will make you look professional.

A Facebook or Instagram page can be built by anyone, but if I'm a potential customer looking into your business then I’m wondering, “Who is really behind this Facebook page?” I’m going to look for your website, and if you don’t have one, then I’m clicking away.

Tell potential customers that you're serious about your business, tell them that you’re a professional, and build trust with your website. Highlight social proof, awards, certifications, your work, and tell them how they can buy from you.

2) It gets you in front of potential customers.

Currently, there are more than 4.5 billion internet users worldwide, and a well-optimized website is going to get you seen. Think about it. When you are searching for something, do you go on social media to find it, or do you type it into your Google search? Most of us look to Google for our searches, and that’s where you need to be found by your potential customers.

A whopping 62% of customers will ignore a business if they can’t find them online. Don’t be left out!

3) Your website is the best way to showcase your social proof.

Sure, you can use Yelp or Facebook to house your reviews, but what if that platform goes down? Unfortunately, social media is rented land, and the audiences are owned by someone else. Strengthen your brand and your online reputation by displaying your best reviews on your website. Add the logos of companies that you’ve worked with, and build a permanent home for social proof. Leverage social media to get people on your website, not the other way around.

4) Over time your website will build up equity.

With the right strategy, your website will create value for your potential customers, and eventually provide a return on investment (ROI). In the US alone, over 90% of people are online, and odds are some of those people are your dream client. Stay competitive in this digital age, and get yourself a website.

5) It’s so easy to get a website up and running!

There are many low-entry website builders out there, but the one I recommend the most for small business owners and creative entrepreneurs is Squarespace. (No, I’m not an affiliate, I just love it!) It’s easy to use, easy to update, secure and has a great support team. I love empowering my clients with a site they can easily update, control and that can grow with their business, and the Squarespace builder does just that. With pricing starting at just $12/month, what do you got to lose?

The bottom line

Having a website that is aligned with your brand and business goals should be a top priority as a business owner. In today’s world, a business website is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. Whether you are an online business or offline business, all your marketing efforts lead to your website. It’s the workhorse that can power lead generation and create sales even while you sleep. So, if you don’t have a business website, get on it!
