Case Study: Graphic Design Portfolio to Design Studio Website
When you’re a new business, there’s no other way to go than to build your own website (unless you decide on a template). In the beginning, your business will ebb and flow. With time, you’ll figure things out. For example, what you like doing best in your business, who like working with (aka: your dream client), and you will fine-tune all the other little things that go into running your business.
With time, you’ll also find that you will outgrow that DIY site or template, and you’ll want to level-up your business with a website that really works for you and how you do business.
My friend, Sheryl, found herself wanting to level up her graphic design business last year. Sheryl is a super talented graphic designer and entrepreneur. She is the President and Co-Founder of L.E.S. Live Every Second, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing health awareness and the importance of routine health check-ups. Plus, she also runs Mercedes Design Studio, a brand and graphic design studio. She is one busy woman!
The problem:
Last year, when Sheryl and I were talking about her website redesign, we discovered that she like so many other graphic designers was making her portfolio the lead story of her website. Not a bad thing at all if you are looking for a job, but if you are looking to grow your business then you should seriously consider positioning yourself as that business that you are.
It’s okay, I did that too… For many, many, many years…
Mercedes Design Studio (MDS) offers graphic design services, printed goods, and apparel. They needed a website that allowed her to showcase their work, and provide an easy way for clients to connect with them.
The design process:
So Mpower Ideation went to work. We had a virtual coffee date with MDS where we talked about Mercedes Design Studio’s goals, their brand, and their customer. We agreed that it was important to not only showcase their final products, but also their customers showcasing their products.
We sought to solidify MDS as a friendly and bright design partner in a way that expands their existing brand.
The outcome:
Built on the Squarespace platform, MDS’s website provides a visually appealing online presence where their customers can learn more about their offerings, see examples of their work, and schedule a consultation call.
Kind words
Her words are a real tear jerker for me. And it’s the ‘why’ behind Mpower Ideation. I’m proud to serve creatives like Sheryl and you. There’s nothing more motivating and meaningful than helping someone make an impact.
So, if you feel like you’re ready to level up your service-based business, let’s chat over a virtual coffee break. Ask me anything, I’m happy to help.
